Not sure if this is my problem, or something going on with the program, but I occassionally have problems when the computer goes into "Thinking..." mode and doesn't return. Other times it works fine.

For example, in problem 1568 whites move Rxd6 brings up the "chess problems is thinking..." window but doesn't return with a move. I can cancel it, which in turn cancels the move. In my experience with other problems I believe I've been able to get around it by moving something else, which leads me to believe I did something really strange Confused

This behavior really depends on the depth (movecount) of the problem. If it is more than "Mate in 3" and the number is set as a " Big and Bold" on the left upper corner of the problem, Caissa tries to find an answer for any wrong try by user and often seems to freeze.

For any longer problem the "Mate in N" should be given in the Header field, when Caissa will immediately respond "Off path" to any unprovided try.

More recent (Approx. from year ago) problems seem to follow this practise, but some older ones still have too big "Big" numbers. Those should be edited, but I am too lazy, Papa is too busy and other editors too shy, I guess.... Wink

I've never had a problem where it doesn't hang.

It makes it impossible to play out variations.

Yes, too unbearable at times. I come back from time to time to try it, but today had problems again.
