I just submitted a Selfmate problem that I expect to be rated 500. The engine tries to play black well, so if it is selfmate in 2, you can play almost anything and be mated in 2 provided you don't exchange the mating pieces. There should be some type of option in create a problem where you choose to have the engine avoid mating. The only current work around is to program in every single move in the tree. _________________ Clifford Keeney

Yes and the same applies for Helpmates too. Here both parties co-operate to produce mate. Normally black starts.
