problem 73 needs to be sandboxed.
1. It's a mate in 4 not a mate in 3.
2. problem sometimes plays 2Kb5. There are no correct answers for that path which gives the problem an artificially hard difficulty. Two correct continuations are:
3QXRc5 ch 4Ka4 5Nc3ch 6Ka3 7b5 mate or
3Nc3ch 4Kb4 5Qd4ch 6Ka5 7Qd5 mate |

After problem 73 gets fixed, the attempts and my attemps counters should be reset. This would give a better indication of the true difficulty. |

After 1b4 2Rc5 3bXRc5 4a3 5c6 6Bc7 7cxb7 8f5 you get a wrong, but 9bxNa8(Q) is checkmate just like the other two correct solutions. |

problem 221: It's not a forced mate in 3. After 1Bb6, it's pretty easy to read the mate so black shouldn't play 2BxB. Instead 2Bg3 3c7ch 4Bxc7 5BxB 6KxB 7Ka7 8e1(Q) 9b8(Q) with a probable draw by perpetual check. |

After 1Nf3 2Be1 3Rg4, black can delay mate with 4g3xh2 5Rh4ch 6BxR 7g4 mate which is mate in 4. |

This is completely true - but it is not the solution _________________ There are only three kinds of chessplayers - those who can count and those who cannot.... |

mrmip, It is also not a force mate in that number of moves. The defense is arbitary. |

1...Rf7 2Qxf7 3Qh1 mate is still marked wrong. It hasn't been fixed since 10-23-2005. |

I meant 1. hxg3 applet plays Bxg3 2. RxBg3 Kh4 3. Rh3 mate. It is still marked wrong since 11-06-2005. See comments for a missing path. |

But I think it is a mate in 3 starting 1.Rxg3 for example 1...Bxg3 2.Nf3 and 3. g4#. _________________ There are only three kinds of chessplayers - those who can count and those who cannot.... |

Sorry, but in fact it IS mate in 3.
1.Bb6 (threat 2.Ba7#)Bxb6 2.Kxb6 and 3.c7# against any move or ...
1.Bb6 B(any) 2.c7+ Bxc7 3.Ba7#
There was no need to change the stipulation... _________________ There are only three kinds of chessplayers - those who can count and those who cannot.... |

This I agree. It also seems that the "best" defence:
1.hxg3 Be3 2.Rg4 Bg5 3.Rh4+ Bxh4 4. g4# is missing from the tree... _________________ There are only three kinds of chessplayers - those who can count and those who cannot.... |

It also seems that after both
1.Rc6! Rxc6 ... and
1.Rxf3+ Rxf3 ... Black mates in 3 by
2.Qh1+ Qh2 3.Qxf3+ Qg3 4.Qxg3#
Both above are marked with red in the tree. _________________ There are only three kinds of chessplayers - those who can count and those who cannot.... |
